“… with blogs, portal, discussion
forums, product review sites and online collaboration
tools, many websites are no longer static electronic
brochures that people read. They are electronic communities
where people interact.” Paul Lima in Backbone, May/June
2006.

Web 2.0 is presenting new opportunities for corporate marketers
and communication departments. We are shifting from a B2C
world to one where C2C is taking hold. Corporations have to
get a grasp on the C2B environment. This world is not about
buzz words—it is about a fundamental shift is how corporations’
constituencies are interacting. And those who grasp this evolution,
understand this medium and develop a strategy will strengthen
their relationship with their core audiences.
Social networking is a recent phenomena and growing at a
mind-boggling rate. While it is primarily an expression of
self in the digital age, it also a means of communal interaction.
Social networking is at the core of the web’s evolution and
Facebook is one of its focal points.
While Facebook and like-minded sites have much intrinsic
social value, our interests as researchers are, frankly, not
so altruistic. There is a strong belief that the online social
networking environment can be, and will be, an important source
of opinion for the research community now, and for the foreseeable
future. The question is how to make use of this in the context
of your business.
